These tools come with lightweight powerful batteries enabling us to take and use them anywhere a hole needs drilling or a piece of timber has to be cut. This is an advantage over corded power tools.
Battery powered tools are as well designed and balanced, and usually as powerful, as their older cousins requiring leads. Batteries will usually give one or two hours of service before having to be recharged. Recharging times vary – usually from 20 minutes to an hour.
One area where corded tools have an advantage is being able to receive constant power for many hours on end if needed. This advantage is even more evident on heavy jobs.
However, many tradesmen and home handymen have a second or even a third battery as backup so running out of power for a job isn’t often an issue. Just remember to recharge all batteries before work begins.
When buying a cordless power tool, be sure to test it for suitability to your situation. Check the tool for size, balance, weight, feel, ease of use, options etc. Ask about battery life and the warranty that comes with purchase. Does it come with a spare battery?
